Texas

The afternoon of Friday, May 31st we drove west through Louisiana and into Texas.

Western Louisiana....I'm pretty sure this is where energy comes from

I hear that Alaska is bigger, but I'm not sure that I buy it (will have to visit!)

Houston = traffic

Pretty sunset before we pulled off. Ate dinner at a place called What-A-Burger....probably should of been called What-an-awful-burger. Then we found our way to a campground at
Buesher State Park

It was a nice campground and very nice to listen to wind rustling through leaves after being in the big city. However, Texas in May is quite warm....we didn't sleep well that night.

So we got up early and headed into Austin. We had heard many comparisons between Austin and Asheville. Austin is a much bigger city. State capital and all, government buildings, banks, etc, but once we got to the farmer's market....the similarities were clear....wierdness abounded...though Austin had more flavors of kombucha. Unfortunately, it was a little too early in the day to hear any of the great music and we were feeling antsy- so we left before noon.

We ended up pulling off that evening Lubbock. In my attempt to get a $50 gift certificate towards gas, we ended up staying at an extremely yucky room that didn't feel safe. I won't mention any names, but let's just say perhaps sometimes one should choose Comfort over Quality. We went grocery shopping and I will never forget it. In Austin everybody was in their spandex cycling to the farmer's market. In Lubbock, well, it was the opposite, but it did inspire me to get back in the habit of eating a salad a day- even if I was on vacation. Thank you for the reminder Lubbock.

P.S. how does a crappy hotel room in Lubbock cost more than an incredible room next to Bourbon St? and I'm still waiting for my $50 gift certificate (never play that game again!)
