Mom and Dad's Visit

Oh What a Wonderful Trip!

Mom and Dad finally made it to Idaho!
Well, Dad had driven out with me to Stanley, back in 2008...and he was able to come out when Pat's dad passed away. But Mom got on a plane with him and they both made it out this time. It was just such a great long week.

They arrived on July 4th...apparently once of the least air-traveled days (ssshhh, don't tell anyone)

Tuesday - Of course we toured Boise State and saw the Blue Turf

Wednesday - Then we were proper tourists and rode the trolley and saw the city

We had a lovely lunch with JoAnn and Mari...but forgot to take pictures!

Then the new fancy umbrella that we ordered arrived in a million pieces to be assembled. That made my head hurt, but mom said it looked like a fun project. So she and Pat assembled the beautiful awning while Dad went with me to try a new gym and after listening to the sales speech, we finally got a workout.

Then Thursday we headed to Stanley

A nice reminder in the little cafe we stopped for lunch in

Just a little view

Views from Stanley

Remember that one time when that guy turned to me in that fancy drinking hole and said "how about wherever we go next, we go together?"  Well, last season it had closed and we were worried it might not open again......but the Rod & Gun is back open!

The cabin we stayed in was north of Lower Stanley. It was a very nice place, didn't have the view I had wished for and you could hear the road all the time (I love Stanley because at night it is silent, which I never get in real life), but it was a great fit for a couple of nights.

Bird-watching

 Deep talking

Then on Friday, Pat and Dad went rafting while Mom and I hiked and talked.

Of course we had to take Mom and Dad by Idaho Rocky Mountain Ranch to show them where Pat and I met.

Then we went to Redfish for music and dinner

Yum!

Our cabin was right on the river

 Selfie with the river!

Saturday we got up for coffee and bagels from Peaks and Perks...what a beautiful view from there

Then we drove over Galena Summit to Ketchum

We had lunch in Ketchum and then back to Boise listening to podcasts and seeing the varied geography along the way.

Sunday we prepared for our new dishwasher to come. The old dishwasher kept the heat on so long as to warp our plastic glasses into modern art vases- neat, but less than useful. Previously, when we had moved into our house, we had wondered why the former owners had replaced the refrigerator and stove but not the dishwasher, but thought eeh- we'll go with it. But when it started acting up and we started thinking about replacing it.....we figured out that it was still there because it was tiled in. The tile was about an inch higher than the bottom of the dishwasher. So Pat got a diamond bit and dremel-ed out the tile.

You can't see a whole lot in this video, but in case you miss the sound of progress...

Then we had a family dinner Sunday evening!

Monday was sort of a bonus day.  We finished putting up curtains.

The dishwasher arrived.

And we had an early birthday dinner with Mom and Dad!
Dinner from Lucianos out on the deck.
I couldn't have asked for a better visit and I'm so sad it's over, but now we know it's possible, so we can do it again!
